My girl came in for styling today and was nearly in tears when I picked her up. Poor curling and styling techniques, combined with not showing you what's going on (facing away from mirror) during the appointment, left her with hair that was limp, curls that were flat and effort that resembled that of a 12 year old. She ended up spending over an hour afterwards (that she didn't have, hence the appointment) fixing her hair, which looked a thousand times better than when she walked out of the salon.It seems like a crapshoot at this place, with at least a handful of unskilled amateurs. I definitely don't recommend betting on this place for an event or if you are otherwise short on time, our visit here was comparable to getting pick-pocketed, except they took our time along with our money. Had an event to attend to last Friday so I came in to have my Hair and Makeup appointment with a friend joining me. We got Alex for makeup and Anjie for Hair styling. They were awesome! Alex was amazing! I showed him a photo of the look I was going for and he nailed it! It looked so awesome! I received a lot of compliments on my eye makeup. Thank you Alex!  Anjie was awesome too! My event was not until 6pm so I wanted to have my hair style hold all night so Anjie did tighter curls on me which didnt seem all too special at first but when I ran my hand through my hair just before the event started like she advised, it was stunning! The whole hair styling process was so relaxing! Definitely coming back to have Anjie and Alex doll me up! Love them! Read Less

I have been to Blo Blow Dry Bar about 4-5 times. Overall the end result has always been good. Pros- -Nice atmosphere-Quick-Great hair products-Good end result-Someone did my make up and she did a great job, super friendly also-They do a much better job styling than my actual hair salonCons-This is not necessarily a con, but it is important to note, reserve in advance, there have been several times I have had an event come up and tried to get in the same day, but couldn't (just means they are busy, which is great!) -I was cancelled on 1 hour before my appointment because someone had the flu, I understand that things that like that happen, but I wasn't given another time slot that day or discount off of another service for the inconvenience. When you have an event and you take the time to schedule an appointment over a week in advance, it's a little upsetting when they cancel an hour before. -over 50% of the people I have had, have not been very friendly, I mean come on, it would not hurt to smile, especially when I am expected to tip at 10-20% Overall this place does a job job, but could work a little bit on their customer service. I had my hair and makeup done here for my wedding this September! My mom, mother in law, and some bridesmaids had their makeup done as well - we were all so pleased! The staff here is super friendly and very easy to work with. Everyone listened to our requests and made us each feel beautiful :) We had 9 girls get their hair done as well, and again, everyone was so pleased with the results! Each girl felt truly beautiful and like they had done exactly what they asked. The salon allowed us to bring in snacks and our own champagne. We essentially took over the salon for two hours, and had so much fun. The receptionist played our favorite tunes too!Thanks so much for making my day SO perfect! I'll be back, for sure! Read Less

It was a busy place on a Friday holiday weekend. Three wash tubs but could probably use more.  There were some regulars that had priority (aka they complained about being on time). Pretty catty IMO for an adult to say. They had 8 stylists working on hair at one time. Busy!My hair was "beach waves" and they stayed!  Felt like she was curling damp hair (super thick hair) but it didn't frizz after like I thought it would. My friend had an amazing bun half up and another with a full updo! Both looked great.Many regulars and a few with people like me who had to prep for a wedding. This is the perfect place to glam and go!  Visit Nazareth for the perfect blow out. She is so sweet and talented. Blo is the best way to add a little luxury to your week - I get my blow out on a Sunday and it lasts the whole week. I visited Blo for the first time today.  The receptionist was nice and offered a drink.  She didn't, however, ask me if it was my first time, and how the hairstyles are all in a style book and that I should pick one.  I started perusing the book on my own as I waited, and quickly saw something called "Pillow Talk" which looked from the photo like what I was aiming for, I didn't read details, as my stylist was ready for me in that moment.The stylist gave me an incredible head/neck massage while washing my hair, and I had really high hopes for the appointment at this point.  She did a great job blow drying my hair, and then it came to the styling portion.I was not facing the mirror, which maybe is common as I read that in someone else's review, so I couldn't see at first that she started curling my hair with a flat iron, until I felt the tugging.  Now, I know perfectly well that a flat iron can curl hair quite well.  It's something I have seen plenty of times, and tried on myself, but didn't quite work for me.  To be getting my hair done professionally, I expected a much more professional technique with say, a curling iron.  For whatever reason, my hair was sticking to the flat iron.  It was OBVIOUS it was not working, yet the stylist continued doing my hair like this.  I couldn't see as I wasn't facing the mirror but I figured if she was going to continue to use the flat iron, it must be working.Until she left to get another stylist's input.  I am assuming this other stylist is more experienced, which is why she grabbed her to ask her opinion.  This stylist continued to do the exact same thing.  Had the stylists had more experience, they might have started using another tool, and realized this one was just not going to work for my hair.  It wasn't until I mention they use a curling iron, that they began to.  So this essentially turned into a training session for the less experienced of the two stylists.  Which normally, I would have been totally okay with.  I have a lot of patience, and do not mind at all if someone is learning while I am getting my hair done.  However, in this case, I was on my lunch break which of course is time allotted.  Neither stylist asked if I had someplace to be, or what my preferences even were! It was just overall a bizarre experience having them discuss my own hair over my head, rather than just ask me, or maybe even turn me towards the mirror so I could see what was going on.I was really excited about this experience, as I have probably only gotten my hair done in a salon a few times in my life, and don't usually splurge for this kind of service.  Overall, I am SO disappointed in the whole experience, and honestly, how my hair looks.  I will be fixing it myself when I get home. Called same day and they were able to fit me in. My stylist was Shannon. Shannon greeted me a smile. She was very comfortable to work with. Gave ideas and options for my hair. I just left Blo Blow Dry Bar, and I am not the slightest bit impressed. I am not from this area and decided to look for somewhere to get my hair styled for a wedding. Blow drying your hair and using a curling iron in warm weather is no fun when you're pregnant.. everything is exhausting, and I felt like getting a little pampered. Walked into Blo and the receptionists greeted me, checked me in, and offered me a refreshment. I told her I'd take a water, and mentioned to her how warm it was outside today. In the moments she was getting my water, the stylists came out to get me. Since I was taken back to the styling chair, I guess that meant I didn't get water anymore because the receptionist came back out with no water and sat in the front desk chair on her cell phone. My stylists (forgot her name already) took me to the wash station. I tried to spark up a conversation, but she was very dull and just chuckled or said, "okay" or "mhm" to whatever I said. So I gave up quickly on any conversations. When it was time to get up, I figured she'd give me a little helping hand up considering it's very obvious I'm pregnant (7 months). But no, I had to waddle myself out of that chair. Next we got to the styling station where I let her know the look I was aiming for and informed her that my hair does not hold curl well at all and that my stylist back home does tight curls for me that way they fall later. She actually pin curls my hair and I let it down when I'm ready, but I knew that was a lot to ask for at this point, so tight curls would be just fine. (my appt was at 12:45 and the wedding I am attending starts at 4:00, which I let her know). My chair was never facing the mirror so I could really see what was going on but I could just feel that my curls were not tight. Not one word was said throughout my entire style, and still no water was ever brought to me. The receptionist was on her phone the entire time until she went to the back for about 20 minutes with another employee. Once the blow dry was over with and she showed me the final look, I wanted to burst into tears (I'm hormonal these days). My curls were no where near what I wanted, I could've done this on my own. And there was zero volume. I told her I'd like a little volume and she did a petty tease job on the top of my head that my husband could've done a better job of. I told her it looked "fine". I'm sure she could tell I was unsatisfied. Thank God I didn't ask to get my makeup done, because I'm scared to know what that would've ended up looking like. Sadly, I will not be back here during any of our future visits. And hopefully others don't get stuck with the experience I had today. I'll be redoing my hair myself before the wedding this afternoon. My husband and I were headed to a comedy show a few weekends ago and I decided to get my hair and makeup done. I've left a review before but HAD to leave a second one. I LOVE Blo Carlsbad!Jeanie always does my hair and does an excellent job. She's my go-to hair stylist at Blo, and I love her. My hair stays all night & she always delivers exactly what I request. I've never had a bad blowout by Jeanie! She's the lead style boss and I highly suggest requesting her, she's a lead for a reason!Cynthia did my makeup for the second time. Amazing!!!!!
