I am SOO upset about service I received here. After viewing a groupon for Capitola Hair and Nail Designs online I gave the salon a call. I was told to come in without buying the groupon online, that it was easier for them if they just gave me the discount instead. I had just grown my hair out after shaving it all off for health reasons and I wanted to do something drastic to celebrate my hair growing back. I brought in pictures of the bright red color that I wanted and was super excited to get this done. It was my way of celebrating being healthy and I told the woman this before she did anything. Well, I guess she didn't have the bright red color I was looking for in stock that day so to make money anyway she completely talked me out of going bright red, saying if I bleached it it would become uncontrollably knotty and that it was too much process to do, that it would ruin my hair. I didn't understand how, if I had virgin hair and these were the only processes done to it, how it would become such a mess considering I had friends who constantly changed hair colors every season, and they managed to get the bright red hair I wanted. Because I know nothing about hair dying, and I really thought this woman was looking out for my best interests, I went with her recommendation of dying my hair red. Again, I showed her the picture I brought in of a bright red fiery hair color and I asked her if it be anything like the picture because that is what I want. She told me that it would be "a little darker" and that if I wanted to brighten it up she could go through and highlight with the bright red color once she got some in stock. I didn't realize until later, but why was she willing to do that when she wasn't willing to just do the all over red color to begin with? Because she wanted to make money and didn't have the color I wanted when I came in. So I let her dye my already dark hair pretty much black with a tint of red. I looked totally washed out, sickly pale. She could tell I was unhappy with it, she kept telling me "it will get lighter as it sets in" (huh?!) and "come back in two weeks, I'll highlight it and brighten it up for you" (she didn't offer to do it for free though). The kicker was, after ruining my virgin hair with a color I hated she made me pay THREE TIMES the price offered on groupon. I looked at her in shock but she was too busy already talking with another client and I was so upset about the whole situation, I paid her and vowed to call the owner the next day. Well, I guess this woman is the gatekeeper because I called every day for two weeks, continually asking for the manager, leaving my number etc, and I never received a phone call because I could tell it was this woman who answered every time. Out $175 I called another salon and thankfully they were very professional and fixed my hair (see review for Vice Salon). Even if this woman only charged me the groupon price, Vice Salon, without a groupon, only charged me $75 to strip my hair of the awful color and to then bleach then dye then straighten my hair. Vice Salon is super hip, in an awesome location, has great hairstylists and is really enjoyable to go to. This place was old, broken down, elderly and very unprofessional. I absolutely do not recommended this salon. Even at a discounted price it's not worth it. Having your hair ruined definitely takes a toll on your self esteem. For a whole week I didn't even want to go outside. No discount is worth that kind of humiliation. And I totally wouldn't have written this review if I got reimbursement, but since I'm out almost $200 they can live with a scathing review. Read Less
