I recently moved back home to Berkeley & have been on the search for a new place to do my brows. It was a no-brainer for me to book an appointment with Benefit Brow Bar since I'm obsessed with their products and all the before & after pictures here look amazing! Needless to say, the girls here are all very sweet and friendly. The boutique itself is adorable and clean. I ended up LOVING my brows, but unfortunately, the wax ended up burning me & tearing off a bit of my skin near my eyelid. It wasn't very noticeable at first, but after a couple days, it started scabbing. Now, I'm very nervous about the potential for the area to scar. Sadly, I'll continue to hunt for my perfect brow salon ... I do love my brows and I think the price of the services are fair, but it's just a bummer to constantly hear, "what happened under your brow?" Read Less

Love, love, love this Benefit location. I've had some bad experiences with Benefit salespeople being excessively pushy, but that has never happened at the Berk location. Elizabeth is amazing with brows and cleaned up mine post-threading-nightmare. Jenny, whom I believe is a/the(?) manager is always super sweet and helpful. I received one of the best Deluxe Manicures and Pedicures in my life from one of the Nail Tech’s at this salon. She buffed my nails better than anyone ever has and they shined for two weeks. This salon is very clean and I noticed all the instruments she used were sterilized. And the prices are very fair for the high quality of service they provide. I will definitely be back! Read Less

I have been twice and both times left due to them assigning me to a chair and then forgetting about me. I don't mind waiting but it has been ridiculous both times. Today, when I thought someone was going to take care of me, they were actually asking me to move for someone else. The first time that I went, no one ever came to my chair. I have been getting my eyebrows and lashes tinted in SF for years. I recently moved to Berkeley and decided to drop in on the brow bar. They set me up later in the day with Mimi and she did a fabulous job. It's one of the cleanest eyelash applications I've ever had. Somehow Mimi managed to get my eyelashes tinted dark black, with no pain or mess. She also cleaned off the dye without hassle. My rinse at the end was really just to make sure, but my eyes didn't really need it. Also, she took her time applying the dye to my brows and the shape came out perfect. I have almost no eyebrows and somehow she made them fuller. I was not going anywhere after, but they did offer to throw in a little makeup, which is convenient if needed. I'm a little bummed to be scoring benefit so low. I gave two stars instead of one because the women working there are fantastic. They are all very welcoming and prioritize customer service, which I found very refreshing. I went in for a brow thread and tint. I found the threading to be more painful than I expected. The woman who did my threading worked so slowly, grabbing one hair at a time it seemed, which was more painful than the faster techniques used by others. Most disappointing was the tint. I got dark brown and it set for 7 minutes.  Within 36 hours it was completely gone. No trace whatsoever. Read Less

Whether I am going in for just a brow wax or to pick up product the entire staff is engaging, knowledgeable and welcoming! I once thought, at my age, that I was just too old for Benefit products. I've been coming here for over fifteen years - it has been a consistently great experience. Scheduling on-line is easy (or by phone), the boutique is always clean and inviting, and the staff friendly and professional. I have my favorite but honestly, if she's not available, the others are terrific too. There are great products and always someone willing to try them out on you without the big pressure to purchase that I've experienced elsewhere. I scheduled an appointment in advanced and everything ran smoothly. Honestly, I was a little nervous going into it. I'm used to having the same eye brow waxer who I've been going to for awhile but since she was all the way in South San Francisco, there was no way I was going all the way there on a Friday. This is where yelp was super helpful. I read a few reviews about Beth and all of them were positive. I decided to take a chance on her. By the end of it, I was really happy with how my brows turned out. They were exactly what I asked for-- not too thin, but shaped. I loved them. It was a risk that paid off. been meaning to write this for a while. This is only for Cole, aka Nicole. For my 2nd visit to her for the triple brow package wax, tint and eyelash tint, she globbed vaseline around my eyes, applied color to my lashes (and brows?), then asked, "are you my nervous client?" I said I didn't think so, so she says, "Ok good I have to go pick up my daughter. {Other aesthetician} is going to keep an eye on you till I get back."  The globs of vaseline had the color drip into my eyes, as it turned out, so that I had a week or so of bloodshot irritated eyes. I did call and they did offer me some vague free something but I forgot to follow up and they have never offered. My last visit there, to someone else of course, was dissapointing so I may not go back again. Read Less

Busy on a Saturday afternoon, as was expected! I walked in before my appointment time and waited a few minutes before someone attended to me. My appointment was with Beth who was finishing up brow tinting with another client. Although i was seated at her station, she didn't acknowledge me for a few minutes. When she finally did, she just said an "I'll be right with you." No apology for the wait, no pleasantries. I'm from Jersey sooo, I'm not one to indulge in small talk but to see her chatty and friendly with her previous client whose appointment had run over and then to be mild and unapologetic towards me felt strange.I was eventually tended to, 15 minutes after my appointment time. I left with decent looking brows and two burn marks by my eyebrows.Sorry that I'll have to trek to Walnut Creek now but I'm not interested in patronizing a place that doesn't prioritize service. Service here is always fast, and accommodating, and that's why I keep coming back! I've come here for all my brow wax needs, and given the quality of service I get, I feel like $21 is a fair price. I don't particularly have a preference in the brow specialist, as I feel they all do a decent, and thorough job. They are very good about asking how you like your brows to be shaped before going in and cleaning them up. Loved it! First time ever going here but was put at ease; I got asked what I wanted and got to look every few minutes to see if it was going on the direction I wanted. My beautician was amazing! Quick and open to tell her exactly what you are looking for. Only thing was she didn't trim my brows like I had asked and because of my age did not want to thread the top (?) Beth and Cheena are also really good. Beth for brow waxing and Cheena for natural brows is what I have heard from my friends. If you already know a beautician go online because you can specify who you want. Otherwise I would call because you can usually get times that say they're unavailable online. While the services and people are pretty damn good and quick, the price is a little steep. Still being a student I don't really want to pay 40 dollars every month for brows and lip so I would recommend this place for a special occasion or a regular place if you're wanting to spend a little more money. Few tips if you've never shaped your brows before. If you want for them to just clean up a few stray hairs and not drastically change the shape, waxing is the way to go. Waxing also makes the lines more defined. If you are wanting to make brows symmetrical, change arches, or have a lot of hair, threading is more precise for that. Threading does hurt a little more but it's just like plucking, just more hairs at the same time. Threading is also for a more natural finish. I just got my Brazilian and underarm waxed here by Jeanessa and it was a great experience! It was kind of weird how there's no ceiling in the room where I got waxed. But she got every hair removed and made sure the wax temperature was ok and applied pressure after each strip removal. They use soft wax with strips to remove hair for the body as well as the face. Don't forget to tip your waxers! I'm not sure if they accept card tips but they have little envelopes for cash tips.I love how easy it is to make or cancel appointments thru Benefit's website. Had a great experience at Benefit Boutique in Berkeley! Got my first ever brow, lip and chin wax. The price ($40 total for all 3) for the services are obviously a bit more than at a local nail salon but figured I'd go to a specialty spot for my first go. I had Cheena and she was lovely. Quick but gentle (given the circumstance). Very personable but professional. After the wax, I got a little "polishing" up by another woman. I didn't catch her name but she was super knowledgeable and gave me kind of like a mini makeover! They added a light concealer to bring down the redness, added a little highlighter under my brows and a magical brow product called "Gimme brow." I bought that along with my services because it was that good. A little blush and bronzer and I was good to go! Got a free deluxe sample of the lash primer and mascara thanks to checking in on Yelp! Yay! Can't get that at the nail salon ;-)Definitely will come again. Read Less

I get my eyebrows done religiously by Cheena, she does them perfectly and I always leave satisfied. Check in here for a free gift! I don't normally wear Benefits cosmetics however after checking in on yelp,  I chose a contour stick, but thought meh. Now I love using the contour stick and use it everyday! I came here to get a brow wax, and Elizabeth did my brows. She was friendly, and did a good job. The person who did a touch up on my brows was also friendly and did  good job. I didn't look like I was angry after she filled them in. All the workers there were nice, and didn't make me feel pressured into buying anything. Booking an appointment was simple as you go to their website and pick the service and estitician. I'm no beauty or fashion expert, but this place does offer a variety of options such as waxing, getting your make up done, threading, and even eye brow/eye lash tinting. I came here hoping to get some make up for a party and to learn how to apply make up. When walking in the place seemed a bit chaotic and it was messy all around meaning the counters and the floor. The staff seemed a bit more interested in talking amongst themselves than serving their customers. I eventually got help after 5 minutes of waiting for them to realize I needed help and asking for help. Additionally I got my eyebrows threaded here and to be honest the person who did my threading didn't seem to know how to do it properly that I had to go to my usual threading place to get it fixed. I had so many little hairs that she didn't remove which sucked. I wish I had a better experience, but oh well that's life. Read Less

I love going to see Beth (Beth, Beth, and only Beth!) for brow and lash tinting after a brow wax, I have been seeing her for years! Benefit is open, light, and airy, and there is a lot of neat stuff here. Everyone is friendly, I'm in and out pretty fast, with great results! The only drawback is that all of their appointment booking is online. If you call their phone number, you no longer get someone at the shop, but an answering service for which they know *nothing*. This means that I can't call in to try to get squeezed in for a last-minute appointment, let them know when you're running late, or ask any questions.Fortunately, the women working here and their personal attention make up for it. I have tried giving this location so many chances because they keep messing up my eyebrows every time I go in... I come out with uneven brows... today will be the last day... I would go back for lip wax only at this location because why not? They can't mess up a lip wax! I was dead wrong!!! The girl that did my lip wax took a huge chunk of skin off the top of my lip! I am not using any kind of products that they warn you not to use when you sign their waver... this girl just starlight up forgot to use the oil they're suppose to use before applying the wax.... this is unacceptable... and I hope the company will improve their hiring criteria and also make sure that every employees follow the exact steps when waxing customers! This is my go to for getting my brow and lip waxes done. I used to wear and buy Benefit Cosmetics -- its clever packaging is alluring and the makeup does wonders -- but my skin often got congested with the base foundation. I used the skincare line as well but found better results with Ren for my skin (oily/dry combo). The sales associates and estheticians are skilled and efficient. I'll usually be in the chair for less than 10 min and they give you a touch up afterwards. Read Less
