I had a such an amazing experience at The Aveda Institute! It was my first time here and I had walked in with blonde hair wanting pink hair. My stylist Daniela Castro was always so kind and really took the time to make sure I got the exact color I wanted. I now have a purplish pink hair color and I’m in love with it. I have been going to Aveda for years and have had a lot of positive experiences. I have a signature style, a bob, but the stylist plays around with the cuts. Victoria cut my hair on Saturday and it looks awesome. She got rid of 2.5 - 3 inches (I'd take off more but my husband would go into shock) and I now have a great summer cut. Tonight I had an amazing facial. I never had a facial that incorporated full relaxation of your entire body. I usually don’t get facials because I want my whole body relaxed but now I have found the perfect balance at Aveda. The all natural products smell so good and did wonders for my skin. Had my hair cut and colored by Elle for the 2nd time. 1st time was good and 2nd was very good. The cut I received was fantastic (one of the best ever after receiving excellent service at an Aveda salon for many years) and color was what I asked for. The only bad news was when I asked for her for my 3rd visit (she said she would still be there) the front desk said they could not assign her because they were not certain about how many hours she had left. After being told that the student and supervisor were familiar with curly hair they proceeded to butcher my daughter's haircut. When expressing our growing concern, the supervisor was rude and condescending. It truly looked like a toddler had gotten hold of the scissors. In the past, the supervisors have made a point of helping the students and making sure that you walked out with a good cut. This supervisor was rude and couldn't be bothered. We were comped the cut which we found out when we went to pay. Because my daughter was leaving for school the next day, I had to find someone to fix it in a hurry and ended up spending $80 to get it fixed. Never again! Read Less

I had them cut fourteen inches off and donated my hair to wigs for kids. I was nervous about cutting off so much and Leah really took the time and effort to make sure I had a positive experience and was happy with my hair. I will start off with the fact that I have been here several times for haircuts that usually go well but I have to practice my patience when visiting the Aveda Institute.  It is at least double the time you would spend getting a haircut elsewhere.  As long as I am parked in the garage and not worrying about the meter running out, I am usually pretty zen regarding the time spent there. The last time I went there a couple of weeks ago will be my last time going there for any hair service.  I decided to go for a fresh up for my color.  If I had known that I would arrive at 2pm (my appt started on time) and that I would not be leaving until 7:15pm (everyone else was long gone)... I would never have gone.  Usually, the students have three checks during a haircut, the start, middle and end.  This hair color service has 1 true check, nothing in all the time I sat having a hundred foils put in my hair (I have a short bob) and a very half-ass check at the end (my hair was still wet when I left, too late to dry it according to the girl coloring my hair).  What?!?!  Luckily, my mother-in-law was very understanding that I spent an eternity there while she was watching my two-year-old.  The color I have now is NOT what I was hoping to achieve.  I showed the girl (very sweet hair stylist)  examples of the look I was shooting for and was beyond disappointed that my hair was nothing like the photos.  Mind you, I am fully aware this is a school and they are learning, but more help from the instructors during the service would be encouraged.  Helping with foils when I am the only one remaining in the salon would have been so appreciated by me.  I also had chemical burn in the front of my head due to the dye sitting on my scalp for several hours.  Needless to say, I won't be returning for another service.  This last time was strictly for hair color, no haircut was done and yet it was 5 hours of my life spent at Aveda Institute.  No thank you to that! I will only be going to Aveda from now on! Everyone was super nice/Helpful. I went from Brunette to Blonde with one session! No orange, no patches and left with an amazing experience! Joely did my hair and she was so sweet and reassured me everything would be ok (I was a little nervous going blonde) definitely will recommend to my family and friends. I love the Aveda Institute! I got my hair and makeup trial done with the Institute about a month before the wedding. The day of the wedding they mixed up who was supposed to do my hair and makeup. I was very surprised and they said it was scheduled like that the whole time. So I don't understand why I would do a trail with one person and then my day of the wedding with another. Also when we got there they didn't have my maid of honor scheduled for makeup. Now they made that happen, but they didn't do anything about mixing up my hair stylest. In the end it ended up okay and my hair was really nice, but I felt horrible about not being scheduled with the original person. Read Less

UPDATE: Within half an hour of the original post Aveda reached out to me. The apologized for the miscommunication about the color and offered to correct it. Their customer service was outstanding, and I really appreciate them taking the steps to fix it. Liek I said in my original review I've gone here many times and it's always been outstanding service, and their customer service response to this one bad experience has been exceptional.************************************************************************************************************************I've gone to Aveda many time at this location and always had an amazing experience, but this time completely missed the mark. I went in to get my hair colored for the first time. I had spoken with the stylist at my previous haircut appointment about getting a baylage. I took in a couple of pictures to show my stylist and her teacher, to make sure the color I wanted was realistic. They both said the color would work and put together a custom color for me. The color was applied with no issue, but once it was being rinsed I knew something wasn't quite right. The student got the teacher to check it and he told her something about the color not lifting right and had her use another product in rub/twist in my hair for another 5 minutes--it was at this point I became concerned that the color hadn't come out right. After the wash I returned to the chair for the blwodry and style. To my dismay I could barley notice any color change at all. What was supposed to be a baylage, but looked at best like a slight tint on the lower portion of my hair. I expressed my concern with my stylist and her teacher who at first said it would look different in the sunlight--we went outside and it didn't look different. I again voiced my concern that the color didn't look anything like the picture we had agreed to use as inspiration. At this point I was given a new answer, they did it like this because it was my first time dying it and they didn't want it to be too dramatic. This was a completely different answer than "look at it in the sun" and also, I came to you with a picture that we all agreed on, at what point did you decide that was too dramatic? I was then told I can make another appointment to lighten it again (to pay another $75+tax to fix the one that wasn't done correctly).I know you can't expect it to look exactly like a picture you use for inspiration, but this no resemblance at all. I really felt that the student made a mistake--which is fine I went to an institute and and understand they stylists are still learning, mistakes are ok--but don't try to cover it up and completely disregard my concern that the serveice i got was not what we agreed and and certainly not what I wanted. I was very disappointed, which sucks because I love aveda and usually get wonderful service, but I'm scheduling an appointment at a different salon to the coloring fixed. Read Less

My experience at the Aveda Institute in Tucson was outstanding. I had Sabrina and she was wonderful! She took great care of me and really wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I was doing a trial for my wedding hair and makeup and everyone was so nice and helpful. I brought in a picture and while Sabrina was doing my hair other students came to watch and help as well. The educators were amazing as well and kept an eye on everything to make sure everything went as smooth as possible. My husband and I have been coming here since our retirement in 2009. We have plenty of time now so it does not matter to us that it takes a long, long time. Students are not always prepared. Takes time to find the scissors then a blow dryer, etc. Most are genuinely nice and really care. I've had the best highlights in my life here. They have natural dyes. I've had a few students who did not give me my rituals so I speak up. The supervisors do care. My husband has his head shaved and color applied. He is always happy. We will continue coming here. I've heard really good things about Aveda, so i decide to try this place out. It always seems to be a problem to get a appointment with them. After my first visit,I bought the "Damage Remedy hair care line" I was told that I would get a credit on my next appointment because I bought product on my first visit. I have tried 2+ more times to book for my follow up to have the actual job done. I even had to change my work schedule to get this done and they decided to cancel on me on the last minute. I confirmed a day before my appointment to make sure its all set to go which they did confirm. The day finally comes and after so long waiting for a single appointment, of course they cancel on me for the second time. It is a hassle just trying to book appointment and changing my work schedule but I am just at the point where professionalism has to come through if your trying to grow a career in this field. Its not client satisfactory. When I told the lady I have been trying to book an appointment for the past 3 weeks she wasn't even empathetic! I keep being told the same thing "Lets reschedule" or "Most of our students are absent". I'm done trying to book an appointment with them, they clearly don't want my business. Read Less

Yesterday I went to Aveda Institute here in Tucson - the only place I ever go to get anything done. It's cheaper for me, and it gives the students experience, and the caliber of students they have here is the very best. Anyway, I had an appointment for a gel pedicure.
