So I promised I wouldn't write a bad review which I won't, however I want to share a few things I recently experienced at R Salon so the next individual will be super cautious before scheduling any services at this Phoenix salon.1. They get bombarded with Groupons' and I foolishly feel into the trap, wanting to get a easy, simple partial highlight done before a big, important meeting. Whoa, so, so wrong of me to do. Eek.2. This salon while having some lifers in terms of stylists I'm told, has high turn over with new stylists coming in and that's the reason for the Groupon - helps them to build their clientele which is great but...3. If you get a newbie or someone who's a recent transplant buyer beware. I was given to a really nice person but she knew literally nothing about blonding and in less than an hour my grown-out balayage end up a weird, almost pinkish ash (she said it was the toner, ahem).4. The #1 reason for the partial is to cover grey at my roots (yes darlings, I have grey now) and outrageously I left this salon not only sad to see my blonde gone but all my grey was still all along my roots and my hairline. Perhaps we give the stylist the benefit of the doubt and assume I lost my voice and she didn't hear me say 12 times "cover my grey."5. Did I pay for the toner? Of course. Did I tip the stylist 20%, yes, of course. Did the owner ask me to come back in three days so he could "fix" my hair? Yes, but was I going to let someone else touch my locks after this? Nope. Nope. Nope.In closing, I have in the past had great hair from a stylist at R Salon however she like Elvis 'has left the building' so oh well. Groupon of course will not refund my purchase nor will I stoop to insisting I get my money back for the toner (that I shouldn't have needed). If you decide to go to R Salon and if you have a great experience YAY, I am thrilled for you. I actually met Victoria Adams while she was at The Drybar nearly 2 years ago. She always made sure to explain what she was doing and how I could achieve the look at home. I appreciated that she would tell me which products I needed and which were not necessary. While the other stylists at Dry were good, Victoria was exceptional. After a few months I was able to find her primary salon and book an appointment. My hair was super damaged. Even with the extra moisturizing treatments. Really, my hair was a reflection of the incredibly difficult time I was going through in my personal life. My first appointment was more of consultation and trim. She outlined the process and said I would need at least two sessions for the color process, but it might be more depending on how my hair took the color. She also made sure i understood that the estimate I would get at the front would be the base price and it may change. It was accurate, and when it turned out I needed a third session she made sure I got a discount. Victoria asks a lot of questions, which I realize is to make sure she is recommending the correct cuts, styles, and treatments. I think around the fourth time I wanted to get a short sharp bob. She already knew me, my crazy curly yet fine hair, and simply asked about the days I run late for work. She got me there. But she did give me an adorable longer bob cut! It was perfect. A few months ago I was transferred to Seattle. I found another stylist and after a couple of cuts I asked for color. Mistake. It turned out bad. Nothing was mentioned about using red shampoo and it wasn't until I noticed the color fading after two weeks, did I find out and buy the correct shampoo. When I went back 6 weeks after my coloring, my hair had faded to a brassy orange. The stylist told me that is the way it goes. So I made an appointment at R salon. Yup, I flew from Seattle to Phoenix so I could have Victoria fix me hair and get me back on my path to blonde. It was totally worth it and I will see her in April!! Read Less

Shawn is truly a talented and creative artist. Miranda howerton is an incredible stylist. I've been going to her for a couple years now and she has yet to let me down with my hair wants/needs! She has colored me many shades of brown, red, many shades of pink and purple, and she just completed a blue/pink color melt on my hair and it's gorgeous. I get compliments constantly after getting my hair done. She's a genius with scissors and even a razor (she does my undercut also). My layers are the best I've ever had because of her! Michelle King is a very good stylist. I wear my hair cut very short but I still ant it to look feminine. Michelle is able to do this very well. She takes time to understand what your head and hair are like and works with them. I've gone to Michelle for haircuts for two years and she asks me every time what worked and what didn't. I went to Michelle King at R Salon for the first time this past Saturday after calling just the day before to make an appointment.  Michelle was up front to greet me when I got there.  I've had three haircuts in the past month to try to get my short women's cut the way I want it.  I decided to give Michelle a try after going to the same stylist twice with no luck.  She looked at the photos I brought with me and listened to what I didn't like about the current cut.  She asked me questions which helped her put my "vision" into technical terms so I could better communicate what I wanted.  She explained to me what she was doing througout the cut.  I finally got the cut I wanted.... better than what I had in mind actually! Yesterday I went to Michelle King to have my short  hair cut and shaped. I am very nervous about hairstylists...as my hair has been butchered...time and time again..AND I drove all the way from Cave Creek!!  I took pictures and was very specific about what I wanted. When she first approached me in the waiting area...she did not smile at me ONCE, and was EXTREMELY unfriendly! I had a sinking feeling while following her to the chair. She pretty much pointed at the chair and"ordered" me to sit down,still not cracking a smile. After explaining what I wanted (she did listen..but acted like I was "bothering" her, and was not enjoying what she was doing) I tried my best to make conversation..but it was obvious she did not want to talk to me. As I was quite nervous about a haircut in the first place (as I've had nothing but bad experiences...except once)...I admittedly said on a few occasions (nicely).."remember  to not cut "this or that" too short"...and she snapped at me "you're too controlling!!" I was flabbergasted!! I only continued sitting in the chair because she still had a ways to go...or I would have walked out!!  Even if I WAS being annoying (out of nervousness)...which I wasn't...a hairdresser should try and make you feel relaxed and comfortable... not bite your head off!! I was so taken aback..I said "oh, I'm sorry..I didn't mean to upset you."..Then she proceeded to tell me my hair color was pretty much "hideous"...(and I wasn't even there for coloring)..I LIKE my haircolor! Although my haircut was ok..not spectacular...Michelle was the rudest hairstylist I have ever come across..with absolutely ZERO people skills! Ive been going to Michelle over a year now, and I can honestly say that she is the best hairstylist I've ever been to! She is fun yet professional, and always makes sure that she has your input and asks what YOU want. She continues to go to workshops(seminars? I dunno) on learning new things, which I think says a lot. She is one of the very few people I've come in contact with who actually know how to cut womens' short haircuts! Another thing I like about her, is that she isn't pushy about buying products. I'll keep going to her til the day I leave Phoenix! I've been seeing Michelle for over a year now and she is hands-down awesome.  I don't know much about hair, and usually have a hard time explaining exactly what I'm looking for.  Michelle has always been able to really listen to me and give me a great haircut to my exact specifications, even when I couldn't articulate them well.I followed her to R Salon from Urban Hair and am SO thankful I did.  I'd follow her wherever she goes.  The staff at R Salon is also super friendly.  I've only ever really interacted with the front desk/booking staff, and they've always been super polite and professional.  The R Salon environment is very nice as it's big, clean, and modern.I 100% trust Michelle with my hair, to the point where I walk in and tell her to "make it look good" and she does.  No complaints at all, she does an awesome meticulous job and is affordable! I'm a minimalist and a frugal SOB, so going to a stylist instead of my $10-$15 barber is outside my norm. I don't wear jewelry (anymore) and the stylizing of strands of dead skin cells on my head seems silly and vain.Right now, you are thinking, "I thought this was a review for Michelle King, but this guy is just talking about is own oddball issues... what the hell?"Stick with me. Anyway, I'll admit that a previous reviewer's comment that she "Specializes in short haircuts for women!!!" got me interested. I didn't test the waters with her because I wanted to look like a woman or a lesbian. Is that not PC or stereotyping? If so, my bad. Though, I did have shoulder-length hair in college (yes, it made me look even more horse-faced) and there have been a few peeps have been "unsure" about me, I figured she'd do whatever she could to make my thinning hair look like what my lady might enjoy.Michelle was great and not expensive (I'm guessing she might be someday). She took her time, got the lines right and I think she did great. But then what do I know.... I literally don't style my hair at all. I comb it wet and let it dry. No product and I only blow-dry it if I am cold in the morning. If I were into the style thing and hour-long sessions, she'd get 5-stars, but I'm one of those barber-bags. I've been to Michelle twice when I can and in town, and I will contiune to do so. She's fun to talk with and a nice deviation from the phone and monkey-jabbin my keyboard for work emails. Oh yeah, the shampoo and stuff is rockin. I requested 5 minute nappy-time and a drool cloth on my next visit. I might bring a beer with me too. Just moved to Phoenix.  My 13 year old son wanted a new look and wanted to experiment with color, so I found Michelle on Yelp.  I called her up and told her what my son wanted and that he needed guidance.  She scheduled us asap.  When we arrived at the salon she was ready for us and gave us a thorough consultation.  She answered all of my son's questions professionally and patiently.  She listened to what he wanted, asked him about his interests, hobbies etc. took all of it into account and explained what she thought would work.  She took her time, and was patient with my squirmy 13 year old and showed him how to style his new cut.  She was detailed, professional, and caring.  He loves his new look and so do I.  She's a true artist.  She specializes in short cuts and is amazing with color (check her hair color out, she does it herself!), but she's great with long hair too.  It was a great experience!
