They may have great stylists, but must not have a clock. I had a 9:30 a.m. appointment, for which I arrived on time. I was sent to a room upstairs with my glass of water and told my stylist would be with me shortly. 15 minutes later, no one had spoken to me, and only one person had even walked through the room. In my work, if I am going to to be 15 minutes late for an appointment, I am expected to let the person I am meeting know. Lack of communication is rude. I also understand things happen to create unavoidable delays. Again, communication is key. I left. I hope that gave the stylist that was supposed to see me at 9:30 a chance to catch up and hopefully be on time the rest of the day. Read Less

I went to Salon U for the first time yesterday; I actually spotted that a stylist I had gone to at another salon in the past had moved there, so I requested her. The customer service was perfect, everyone seems excited to be there and they make you feel super comfortable. Heather Chaney is awesome! I've now gone to her 3 times and 2 of those appointments were for big hair changes (one major cut, the other for a dramatic color change). I just went to Salon U for the first time and had a wonderful time! The salon itself is new and trendy with all the perks. They offer you water/soda/wine/beer while your stylist gets ready for you, which I think it a very nice touch. My stylist was Makayla and she did an amazing job! I got highlights, a trim, and she brought my fall bangs back. I love Salon U Midtown! Benji first starterd cutting my hair in the Homewood location but even though I live 2 blocks away from Homewood and it is much more convienent to get there I love how Benji cuts my hair so much that I go to the midtown location! Amazing service from the time I walked in the door until the time I left. When you book an appointment if you want your hair colored you have to say that so they can mark out the time. This is in response to the guys review that said he was told to come back for the color. If you didn't make an appointment for color of course they told you that you would have to come back. Chad did my hair today and he is not only a fabulous hair stylist he is also an amazing guy. I swear I felt like I've known him for years and he gives the best scalp massage I've ever had in my life. I left feeling sexy and sassy with my new cut not to mention completely relaxed and rejuvenated!!! It was a great experience from the time I walked in until the time I left. This is my absolute happy place. The place smells amazing, offers wine and chocolate to clients, and uses Aveda products; what more could a girl (or guy) ask for? Chad is my stylist and I couldn't be happier with him. I booked an appointment with Fran a month in advance as I had heard some great things about her. I got a call two days prior to my appointment saying she wasn't taking new clients. I could have gotten my haircut elsewhere, or when I went to Atlanta. I waited a whole month and they ended up cancelling last minute. I was offered another hairstylist, but no thanks. If you are not going to take new clients, then all your staff should know. This is very unprofessional and poor customer service. Never going to this place. Read Less

I don't know if I have bad hair, or difficult hair, or just have had a slew of really horrible stylists, but for my entire adult life I have had really horrible salon experiences. So horrible that in the past I've resorted to cutting my own hair.I decided to give Salon U a try last year. The receptionist assigned me to Michelle N. upstairs. This woman gets my hair. She didn't complain about it or tell me what a horrible person I am. She just did her job and did it well. I went back to Michelle earlier this week for a completely new 'do and I love it and she is great and I'm not sure why the other reviewer had such a bad experience. I am 2/2 for great hair experiences!The receptionists are always really friendly in phone and in person. My hair washer guy let water dribble all down my face and in my ears which I hate but...I guess as a man maybe he just didn't care to touch me delicately? All in all so far very positive experiences. I have gotten so many compliments on my new cut and color that I just had to let everyone know and give some props to my stylist. I have been going grey for the last several years and have covered it from time to time, but never have really gotten a natural looking color, I actually was looking for a new salon and playing on google when I came across the salon review section, I was really impressed by one reviewers experience with Benji at Salon U, so decided to give it a try. The salon is very shiny and stylish, bright and inviting and the staff is incredibly friendly so I immediately felt like I had made the right choice. Benji greeted me and we talked for a while about my issues and what look I was going for and after a little back and forth and him showing me some picture we decided on a very stylish cut with lots of movement and shine. It was a little shorter than I usually go so I was a little nervous but I really wanted a new look overall. He colored and highlighted and cut my hair and it looks so good. It is a great cut and color and my grey is gone and covered naturally. I rarely write reviews for things like this but I just had such a great experience I had to share. I have just moved to the area from San Francisco and have been looking for a salon of the quality I am used to. Up until now my experience has been mediocre to say the least, but I really loved Salon U. It is such a beautiful salon, very stylish and clean and the staff was very friendly and was able to squeeze me in as a walk in. I met with my stylist Benji, we sat and chatted about my style, and color and the look I was going for. He was very friendly and conversational and seemed to really understand the look I was going for even tho I had a hard time explaining it myself. He brought me to his station and started the styling and we had such a great conversation. I did get a little nervous when he said he had recently graduated but it was unnecessary, the color was exactly what I wanted, and the cut is hip and stylish but still appropriate for my age and profession, I am really impressed. I went to Salon U earlier this week to have my hair ""trimmed"" by a someone that was highly referred to me by several people. Not only did I want to cry in the chair before I left, it was absolutely the worst haircut I have ever had. I now look like a 14 year old little boy with a bowl cut. Gee Thanks. I really don't mind paying $80 to get my hair if I look amazing and feel amazing when I walk out....but when I could have gotten a better cut at Walmart and I had to fork out $80, it just makes me sick! When I walked into Salon U I was greeted with a smile and friendly welcome. The space is bright and filled with art, sculpture and comfortable furniture. The Aveda products sit neatly on shelves that float along the walls. When I met with the stylist, Scott, who cut my hair I was ushered to a personalized consultation that was informative and exciting. The salons I've visited in Europe and my hometown of New York City have not spent the time and offered the attention I received at Salon U. This salon is amazing. I have gone there for five years now. The staff always knew my name. Even though they are excellent at what they do, I did not once feel that ""stuffy-uppidy"" thing that most salons that do what Salon U can do, give off. I feel in love with the staff not only because I knew I could go there and get an excellent hair cut, but that I would be able to relax and be myself. The stylists at Salon U are phenominal. I've never been to a Salon where more attention was given to detail. They actually listen to what you want and then guide you in the right direction. I always leave feeling great. Unlike many Salons I've visited in the past only to walk to my car and immediately brush out the style. However, don't go if your in a hurry. This kind of attention takes time and you will spend a better part of your morning there. They're services are expensive, but well worth the sacrifice.
