Got burns from my waxing at the beauty bar one due to the wax being too hot. It is now 4 days since I had this done and my underarm is still so painful and cant reach up high due to the pain with stretching. I hope it heals soon and doesnt permanently damage the skin. Went in this weekend to get a French manicure, was quite taken aback by how blunt and unfriendly the lady who spoke to me was as I walked in, made me feel really uncomfortable. Wasn’t kept waiting long but having my nails done felt very rushed and none of the staff spoke to me at all! Then one day later having been assured the gel would last 2-3 weeks at a cost of £23 it has started to peel off one finger already and looks awful! Complete waste of money and the cost of me returning to get it fixed wouldn’t be worth it. Also would not want to return to somewhere with such a bad atmosphere. Would not recommend. Read Less

Best nail bar in york. Had my nails done quite a few times and the girls have always be extremely friendly. Always accommodating and really gentle. I have also popped back when my nails have ripped (no fault of the salons) and they are always willing to do a quick repair. They are always busy but that's just a sign of how good they are. I've been there probably 5 times. Girls there rescued my nails after visits in Hind and other York salons. I love the possibility of walking in, or booking appointment next door. If you need acrylic extensions deffo book it early enough, I don't have them often, only when my nails are super damaged and short, but it's soooo well made. Single session allows me to grown the nails back to good condition in 6-7 weeks and take it off. Can't say bad thing about it. I am always reluctant to write bad reviews as they are often seen as 'whiners' but I just had to let people know about my experience today. I booked in a low key hen party 6weeks ago, with 9 ladies to get our nails done. We were promised that we could lay out food, have a glass of bubbly and enjoy the salon being 'block booked' out for us. Coming from halifax to York for the day, I bought balloons, banners as a surprise for the bride and food for the party. Only to be told wh...en we arrived that they could not fit us in and it wasn't possible to accommodate us. The manager (who was rude and arrogant) told us that we would have to use the nail bar (their sister shop) to get our nails done with 10% off (which had already been offered to us as such a large booking anyway). As this shop is a walk in, there were lots of customers already waiting and very little room for a 9 person hen party. The manager showed no regret that the party could not be catered for saying 'I've had a bad week, I have no staff'. No customer service what so ever. Sometimes I can be awful at planning things. Like scheduling appointments for manicures. Or pedicures. So when I saw that Nail Bar One existed, which deals exclusively in walk-in appointments, I was excited.My friend and I decided on a spur of the moment treat yo'self day. She arrived earlier than me to the salon, so when I arrived she was already being helped with a manicure. I waited a little longer before someone was available to do my manicure, as they only have 2 people working in this establishment. While both people working there were friendly, only having two workers can definitely mean a long wait for customers.This salon is definitely an express salon. The store is tiny-- manicures are done in the main room, and there are a couple of other rooms for pedicures and other spa options. I got a gel manicure with design, and it was pretty no-frills. My friend had her cuticles cleaned, but I didn't. Nor were my nails cut. They were simply filed, buffed, and then painted. Maybe that's the way nails are done in England, but it was a far cry from my normal manicures in the states. Overall cost was 25 pounds, which wasn't too bad considering.Sadly, a week later and my gel has already chipped noticeably. My nails chip easily, which is why I usually don't get manicures, but I was really hoping this gel would stay on longer.All in all, Nail Bar One suited my needs, but nothing about the experience stood out. Heard good reviews and wanted a drop- in appointment before holiday so thought I'd give here a go. They were massively under-staffed and the girl said it would be a 20 minute wait so I decided to wait. I was then left for 40 minutes and completely ignored. There wasn't even an apology for leaving me waiting twice as long as I was told I would be waiting for. She completely rushed my nails as it was so busy and I also had an eyebrow wax afterwards where she spent 2 minutes waxing my eyebrows and then charged me the full amount. I've visited Beauty Bar One twice now and had very friendly service from Tina. The first time I was very nervous, having bitten my nails as long as I could remember and done my best to give up for a few weeks. My colleague had a joke at my expense by convincing me to ask for a French manicure. Tina said she'd never given a French manicure to a guy before but she immediately put me at my ease and I decided to let my friend have her fun. Tina did an amazing job, explaining ever...ything as she worked and giving me lots of tips and advice as I had absolutely no idea how to care for my nails. I couldn't believe how different they looked when she had finished and got lots of compliments at work for how pretty they were. So next time I was passing through York I decided to visit again, this time for a gel manicure (suggeested by the same work friend!). Tina did a lovely job again and remembered me from last time, immediately making me feel comfortable and welcome again. She selected a beautiful sheer pink that makes my nails look lovely but doesn't stand out too much as too feminine for a guy. I can't believe how shiny my nails are and how strong they feel and I'm going to be seriously tempted to have gels redone! I can definitely see how women get addicted to this! My daughter and I had our nails done only yesterday as a Christmas treat whilst in York on our girlie day! Both sets of our gel nails began lifting less than 24hours later! We are extremely upset after spending nearly £40 and now have unsightly nails for the festive period. Unfortunately I had a bad experience - £30 to get bio gels - prep was poor - only took 20 minutes for whole service. Disappointed in state of cuticles - trimmed but dead skin left - and living skin cut - gels came off after 6 days. To be fair I rang the Manager, who does not work on the day of the week I got mine done. She offered to do them again, however, I have decided to cherish my own nails and avoid gel nails in future.
