After reading the other reviews.........yes there is a fast turn-over but who wants to spend an hour and a half getting their nails done? personally I have other things to do. Yes they speak in their first language to each other, wouldn't you at times if you are spending all day at work where everyone else speaks a different language? Rather that than having to listen to the banal conversations of the 'English girl'.Yes the place is dated and a little dirty but I can overlook that for the hour I'm there and as they all work so hard maybe they don't have time to 'do the corners'. I've always been treated politely and had fabulous acrylics. I've tried elsewhere and have always been disappointed and for twice the price too! Went just under a week ago. Pros - A lot of nail colour options - 20% off for students so shellac was £20 Cons: - the manager disciplined the beautician in front of me saying they were doing it wrong. - My nails were burning which the manager said it as normal - already chipped and peeling off not even a week - nail varnish all over my skin when I left - didn’t paint the tips so end of nails already peeling away - nails hurting all the way home, not sure if it’s quality of nail varnish or that it is old but nails are really stiff and sore, a week later it is a bit better Overall this has been my worst experience at a salon. Went to be pampered and came out feeling sorry for staff, stressed and in pain and £20 less in my pocket. I’ll go down the road next time! Read Less

Go to Wisteria Lane or The Manicure Suite!! Both are incredible & do outstanding work. I'm a regular now at Wisteria Lane. Barb does my nails and she's so sweet & talented. The salon is quaint and has such a positive atmosphere, the girls are sooooo nice. You'll love it... PLUS- Best nail designs I've ever had. I've never left there with wonky or terrible nails like I had done when I was a "regular" at American Nails. Ugh- what a waste of time and money. So glad I've found Wisteria. Read Less

Used to be good but gone downhill. The staff sit you down and appear desperate to keep you on the premises. They start your nails and then go off to others who walk in, knowing you have no option but to stay once they have started. Being a regular for over 10 years, I don't appreciate this! Last time my nails were rushed, looked wonky and just plain awful but I dare not mention it as it is usually met with rudeness. I have witnessed a pregnant woman go to get cash after card refused (despite offering this service) being chased through town like she was about to make off without paying! The worst and most expensive pedicure I've had!! I had gel nails and she didn't soakt them off, she used a machine to take them off and to shorten my nails. She cut each side of my nails which made my nails look tiny and deformed. The scrubing wasn't done no cream or massage was given after. The colour was applied so badly and cutting the cuticles I asked not to cut so much because I don't need it she cut so much it started to bleed. Now i have some sort of rash on my feet. The owner cares about nothing but money it's absolutely disgusting. There are so many places in bath honestly I wouldn't go to this place! I'm not one to ever write reviews but this was necessary!!! Very bad experience. Staff chat to eachother in their own language, not caring regardless that your sat there like a lemon. The guy doing my nails (young) started cutting his own nails and the skin around his nails whilst he was in the middle of doing mine! Polish went on fine, noticed when it had dried that my thumb nail was very wonky. Mentioned it to the manager and he sat me down again to have it fixed, she attempted to fix it but smudged my polish over my thumb, and the filing made no difference. I've got home and have had to take off the varnish and do it myself again, noticing that the acrylic on almost all of my nails is lumpy! Thanks American Nails, I won't be coming to you again. Ugh, this salon was okay when I initially started to take my business there- then, as I became a regular customer, their service and care lessened and lessened until I couldn't bare going any longer. May I suggest two very posh and clean places to go: 1. Wisteria Lane 2. The Manicure Suite You can't go wrong with either of them. Make sure to call ahead, although they do say they take walk-ins. Awful awful salon. So dirty. They rush you in and out, and I like long nails they wouldn't let me have them as long as I wanted as it uses too much product?! What am I paying for?! Overpriced and all they do is talk in their first language all day they don't even attempt to speak to you. I asked for a certain colour and they spoke to each other in their language and laughed then reposonded to me. Disgusting, rude, dirty people and salon. Worst place I've ever gone and money I'll never get back. They even told me they charge one off customers more and their regular customers less in an attempt to make me come again. Vile place. Please please please sort out your staffing issue. Every time I come here I wait over an hour and a half. It puts immense pressure on staff when there are around 10 customers at a time and 2 staff (3 maximum) working. It's really not fair on them and doesn't make it an enjoyable experience for customers or staff. Read Less

Decided to give this place another go after an underwhelming first visit in the summer with a friend. I know I picked the busiest time (Christmas week) so didn't expect instant service for my gel polish manicure (there was a 30min wait), but this salon is pretty grotty. You can hear acrylic nail clippings crunch underfoot, the towels are dirty and stained and I suspect the tools don't get cleaned often. Service is as quick as they can get away with. My nails were roughly filed, wonkily cut and I can see a couple of tiny hairs and fluff have caught in the varnish. I had polish around my nails and even elsewhere on my fingers. As soon as I'd set my final coat under the lamp I was told I was done - my nail technician was already working on someone else. I didn't get a finishing wipe with acetate solution meaning my nails are a bit tacky to the touch (though the varnish is set). As I paid, I was rudely asked several times to pay in cash rather than card, despite saying I wanted to pay by card and I had no cash. The space was crammed with waiting customers, but also with a couple of surplus boyfriends and kids, which made it all the more packed. Not recommended unless you're desperate for a manicure and can't get in anywhere else. Noticed a place in The Corridor on the way home, which might be worth trying instead... Read Less

It is with regret that I write this review but after the experience I had at American nails today I sadly won't be going back. I booked in for a manicure and pedicure and during my pedicure there was at one point 12 people stood around my pedicure chair, all customers cramped in to a tiny tiny room. Then the owners children arrived and were dipping their hands into the pedicure water. The nail technician, who was incredibly professional and polite, was so cramped trying to wo...rk and then was told she had to do my manicure stood up. Correct me if I'm wrong but it is incredibly difficult for someone to give a customer a manicure when they are stood up. It also isn't a very enjoyable experience for the customer. The manicurist was not able to do the manicure properly(understandably) and then I asked if we could move to sit at a table. My manicure was then re done, using nail varnish that was all gloppy, making the manicurist job even harder. The salon was a mess and looked incredibly dirty and even though there was no where to sit for waiting customers the manager kept bringing more and more customers in the room. The rooms are small and it's impossible to have dozens of people in the room and expect the staff to be able to do their job properly. One woman even said last week she got her eye brows waxed and the 'beautician' burnt her skin and her eyebrows have scabbed. I've had nail extensions and acrylic nails here on three occasions.  I've not had my nails done elsewhere so can't compare.  But although the communication was a little difficult (from someone who doesn't know what options there are and with question vs all staff having Chinese as a first language) the outcome was amazing.  The first two occasions I had the nails painted with union jacks, not foils or templates, actual hand painted lines which were perfectly straight and of the correct thickness having shown an image of what I wanted.  It was a little stressful not knowing what I would end up with but I was really impressed with the quality of fitting and removal a month later.  My latest visit has been for a coral colour and they have a vast selection of colours but if there is something specific that you want then you will need to provide it.As communication is a problem but customer and nail technicians can find it stressful, but if your more interested in great nails then this isn't a reason to be put off.  They are cheaper than some of the other companies locally and always have time to fit you in (with a short wait and then slightly rushed service).Overall I would recommend Bath's American Nail and will continue to use them as a cheap local option. But I will get advice on how to maintain my nails from youtube! Read Less
