Brooke, at the Uptown location, did a balayage on my hair today and it went simply beyond my expectations! She's just awesome... I so appreciate how she patiently answered all my questions, discussed the options and tried her best to accommodate all my requests! The head massage during wash was so relaxing and then finally the cut how I exactly wanted it to be, followed by those pretty soft curls... Aww I can't thank you enough for this! Went as a new client, ended up waiting 25 minutes past my appointment time to be seen, and that was with the assistant, the actual stylist didn't see my hair until it was wet. To me that would make it harder to account for texture or cowlicks? Cut was ok, didn't make me go wow. A little less aggressive than expected I was clear on what I was good with, but she went way less than that. She did all the cutting while wet, I'm used to it being 25-50% max done wet. I would have said something about the cut, but I didn't realize that the blowout meant the end of the cut. By the time I realized, the stylist was already wishing me a good night. So I just left it. The stylist and assistant both pulled my hair A LOT, which was strange, and I have a very high tolerance for it. Someone with less tolerance might have had a really bad time. The only real redeeming quality was the free hand massage given by one of the assistants. If you tap to pay, you don't have an option to leave a tip on the card. Everyone was nice, it just wasn't the deluxe experience it's advertised/priced as. Edit: after posting this review I got a phone call. Three actually, within five minutes. Apparently they called right back after I ignored the first two calls I figured there must be some sort of emergency to get so many calls (did not have the #in my contacts to know who it was calling) so I stepped out of my meeting (early afternoon on a weekday) to answer. I got a hurried explanation for the call, I said I was busy at work and to call back in the evening. I received no call that night. Did get a call 4 days later in the evening but i missed it. Disappointed with my experience at the Sportsworld location. I was basically "upsold" from a nail colour change that should have been $15 to a $45 dollar pedicure. I blame the receptionist who took my call only 2 hours before my appointment. She first said she wasn't aware of the basic service I had requested (and said the simple nail change should only be 15) then said oh I thought maybe you called back and asked to upgrade - how does that even make sense...in the end I paid for what I got but not what I asked for and it cost me an extra $30 and therefore will not return to the Sportsworld location ever! I saw Brooke at the uptown location today. Fantastic! She was professional and it was like she has done my hair for years, she was just so in tune with what I needed. The complimentary hand massage and hair curling afterwards sold me on this place for good. Best hair salon in the city! Creative stylists, excellent service, and nice ambiance. I like to change my hair color and style very frequently, within 6 months, i have done 3 totally dramatic change so far and all of them are beyond great. I have to credit Kathy as she is an artist than just hairdresser; every time i show her a picture of the color and style i want, she explains to me the process, expectation, and at home hair caring routine before starting, and amazingly the end-result is what I expected. Mercedes Cavangh has been doing my hair for years. I really trust her approach when it comes to cutting and colouring my dry, straight, graying hair. My hair usually needs extra tlc whenever I visit Mercedes and she knows exactly what to do. I also ask a lot of questions--she always has practical tips for me.
