I recently got the Dermalogica Customized Skin Treatment and I was VERY disappointed with my treatment. This is supposed to be a 75 minute facial but mine was barely 60 minutes. I feel like half of my facial was just the massage which was very unnecessary. This isn't a pedicure. Why do my feet need to be massaged? Overall, the application of products felt very rushed to me and lacked finesse. I didn't even have a mask applied to my skin for the requisite 10 minutes. My facialist spent maybe 2 minutes total talking to me about my skin and during that time she failed to mention best practises and aftercare. The thing that made me very upset about this whole process was the extractions. It was very painful and she made me bleed. Anyone who knows anything about skincare, least of all a facialist, knows that some breakouts are better off alone. I did not get what I paid for. This was a rip-off and sadly I won't be coming back. Needed my nails done in a pinch and tried Sekai on a whim. My boyfriend also tagged along for a mani/pedi. They were able to accommodate us and gave us end of day appointments. We didn't feel rushed and the services were excellent; terrific application and the scrub and massage were SOOO relaxing! Staff was super nice and seemed they had a really loyal client base. I'd say beyond the superb staff & services, this is a super clean, and hygienic experience. The price tag is a little steeper than some of the neighbourhood joints, but I find many times at these inexpensive places, the service and hygiene is lacking. Will certainly be back and take advantage of some of the nail art skills these gals posses, next time... I was a little jealous of some of the sassy hands being done around me - very cool stuff! I had a very poor experience here. I had booked a non RMT massage for a relaxing hour long Swedish massage. We were running a bit behind (which was my fault) and the massage therapists told me she wasn't going to give me the full hour (okay, fair) During the massage she was hurting me and I had to ask her twice not to do something. She was digging and pushing into my bones and muscles (truly anything but relaxing) - it felt like she was pushing into my back rather than mass...aging it. I was bummed my whole massage - I don't have benefits so this was a real treat for me (and an expensive one for somebody who doesn't have benefits) while on the table I informed her I didnt have benefits - so she actually gave me a full hour. But until she knew I had benefits she was going to cut my massage short. Grateful she gave me the hour - but really bummed that thats how people with benefits would be treated. I went up to pay for my massage and I was charged for a RMT massage - I was so off put in the moment I paid it and left as quickly as possible. The RMT massage was an extra 30 + tax and tip .... I hadn't booked that and wasn't prepared to pay $120 for a massage that left me feeling sore and really discouraged. Perhaps the specialty at this beauty bar is nails, certainly not massages. My friend and I went Sekai last weekend to get shellac manicures done. I had been here before and got a chrome manicure and absolutely loved it, so I didn't think twice when booking. The manicure was okay, still some stray cuticles I trimmed back myself at home, but nothing really was wrong with it. Where my issue stems is now a week later both my friend and my's manicure are completely chipped and look horrible. Seeing as we got shellac, it shouldn't be chipping at all, especially not 1 week out. I contacted Sekai to see if they would fix this for us and they told us we had 3 days to come in or else they wouldn't be able to help us, and if we were unable to come in 3 days (they emailed me back at the end of one of those days also, actually making it 2 days really), they would not fix our manicures but would give us a discount the next time we came in. My frustration with this is that obviously we're not going to be able to drop everything and come in at the drop of the hat, we both work full time desk jobs (meaning our nails don't get a lot of hard usage) so planning around that and when they have available appointments is almost impossible. Also, since my manicure turned out so horribly this time why would I want to go back and spend more money with them even with the discount applied? I emailed them back stating my concerns and just never heard back from them. Needless to say, due to the quality of manicure and the lack of real concern that the shellac was poorly done (it could be the product, the light, or maybe they didn't cap the end properly) I will not be returning here and would advise anyone looking for a long lasting manicure to do the same. I booked Sekai for my aunts bachelorette party. We were greeted by Lauren (who I had been in contact with while booking) and experienced amazing customer service start to finish. Had a bikini wax, eyebrow wax and a manicure. Bikini wax- I'm uneven... so I'm not happy with it. Eyebrows- there are lots of stray hairs left on both sides and are also uneven. I should have paid more attention but both looked ok at the angle I looked at. Sigh. Manicure- the finish is ok. Not perfect and not much bette than what I can do myself. Mostly I'm really not pleased with the waxing. Expected much better. Read Less

After several months of very good experiences, the visit this week to the College St. location was so incredibly off-putting that I will not return again. Very sad as this second location is building a new customer base and I am sure cannot afford to lose customers in their first year of business. I had my first experience this week with their new manager, who was offensive and rude-zero people skills and horrid manner. To the owners at Sekai-this is the ambassador of your business! I am sure I am not the only one she has treated with condescension and given exceptionally poor customer service to. Perhaps just a few would take time to share their experience, like me, and others will simply not return. My nails were in horrid shape - I'm talking borderline homeless status. I called Sekai and had the pleasure of speaking with Sana (the owner) on the phone who quickly gave me the price low-down of the services I was interested in and booked me to come in 20 mins later. Now, Sekai is so freaking cute - it's got the charm and aesthetic of a well dress fashionista. Upon entering I was greeted warmly by none other than Sana who helped me pick a colour for my nails. This process can often be exhausting and can slightly give me anxiety as I'm picking the perfect temporary polish - insert eye roll. Anyways, a wonderful woman cleaned, buffed and painted my tootsies while another one got to work on my hands. When all was said and done, my anal retentiveness kicked in and I felt like there was one  nail that was crooked (I later learned it was my finger not the paint job) but the team at Sekai was more than happy to fix that bad boy and send me along the way. All in all, LOVED my experience (9.5/10). I concur with the other Yelper that suggested that a loyalty card would make the place just a tad bit sweeter :). Either way, I'll be back!! Read Less
