I always have excellent service from Kristen Spinney-Muise. I would give her 5 stars. I especially love the head massage she gives me after the hair conditioner is applied to my hair.....oh, so relaxing. When Kristen was off on maternity leave, I had my hair by Mitch, another excellent hair stylist. I've never had a bad experience and I've been going to The Head Shoppe for many, many years, and will continue until I no longer can. Actually, all the hair stylists seem very friendly, and helpful. Mario is not my stylist, but he always seems to notice me when I am there, so he makes a point of saying every time. I would highly recommend The Head Shoppe on Mumford Rd to everyone. Read Less

I normally get my nails done by Kelsey and she does a great job. I went in 3 days ago with a different aesthetician for a Shellac manicure and 3 of my nails already fell off ( I wasn't at work or being hard on my hands whatsoever). This is by far the worst experience my sister had ever had in a salon. She didn't believe they cared for her infested but only their's. She asked for a violet dye, and went for a consultation with a hairstylist, and while she was sure it would work and last 6 weeks. It lasted 1 wash, and turned orange. My sister was opposed to bleach but her hair stylist said that she needed to do it to get the colour. Afterwards she blamed my sister's hair for being "a sponge" and how it suc...ked colour in but then spat it out. My sister was so frustrated and unsatisfied, and honestly wanted me to give no stars because it deserved none. The worst part for her was, she did not even get a proper apology face-to-face. Not even from the manager in charge, who knew of the whole situation. They were both incredibly unprofessional, and only gave my sister a refund on half of what she paid. They were more focused on getting rid of my sister's problem than actually satisfying her as a customer. Her hair the first day was gorgeous, but the first wash immediately showed the orange beneath. I moved here 2 years ago and have yet to find a colourist. Instead I turned to box dye. I had been dying it red myself. So my canvas was quite damaged! I spontaneously called the head shoppe and they got me in on a cancellation spot within 20 mins of my call. Leah did my hair. I'm very happy with the results! I did have something much lighter in mind however!! I am so happy with my results and I understand that in order to fully get rid of the red this is the first step. And it's great! Now that I'm home in my light I can see the colours much more. Leah kept great conversation. I was exhausted after an extremely long work day and felt bad for the constant yawning. Went in for just a trim and got the top half of my hair cut up to my chin and the bottom half stayed long. Thank god hair grows back. Lesson learned to tell the stylist by having to explain what a trim is. Read Less

My visit yesterday evening was not enjoyable and I probably won't return to this salon. The wash, cut and dry were fine. The stylist, whom I had never before met, said nothing to me the whole time, but that's ok - I am truly fine with quiet at the end of a busy day. After she dried my hair, a shoulder length bob, she asked what I thought. The cut was fine, but my hair was pouffy (the use of a large round brush has that effect), so I requested that she run the straightening ir...on through it, which is part of my own hair care regimen (Halifax humidity + naturally curly hair do not mix). When I asked this, the stylist informed me that "no, I don't have time to straighten it." Surprised, I asked how that was? I was unaware of a time limit and did not think that straight ironing was a special service? Should I have specified that I would be wanting my hair flat ironed when I booked an appointment? (I assumed that by indicating that I was looking for a cut and style that that was covered). She told me I should have made a special request and explained (condescendingly)that she "blows hair out and never uses a flat iron"- which I found a very odd statement. Every other time I have ever had my hair done - hair which is naturally curly - flat ironing was offered to me after a blow dry, as a matter of course. So anyway, I was pretty annoyed and when she said (rather snarkily) "well I can run a flat iron through *some* of it" I said please do. She did. The cut is fine, not my favorite, but fine. Although I remained pleasant and thanked her for her service, It is clear to me that my request for straight ironing annoyed the stylist because she did not see me to the counter, thank me, or say goodbye, offer her card etc - which took me aback particularly because I had mentioned to her my desire to purchase a product and indicated that I would like some guidance. In the end I bought the product elsewhere. I presume the stylist was having a bad day and that perhaps she had made the mistake of overbooking clients. I also understand that not all stylists are equally personable - and I am fine with that. Still, I was displeased with her unprofessional behaviour. She made me feel like I was being unreasonable when, in fact, I feel that the services I sought are pretty standard. Went to Head Shoppe at Halifax shopping centre a Complete disappointment. Went for haircut and what I specified to them not to do they did exact the same. Told so many times this is not what I want but they didn't listen, finally got frustrated and had to leave with bad hair cut. Definitely not gonna visit again. Read Less

Update: Just wanted to add that The Head Shoppe made absolutely no attempt to contact me. The comment from The Head Shoppe rep below is BS.It was Victoria Day and i needed a haircut for an interview. All the barber shops were closed so I ended up at the Head Shoppe. The hair cut that I recieved here was absolutely the WORST haircut I have ever had. The store was really nice and the people that worked there were nice but unfortunately the person that cut my hair did a terrible job. I will never go to the Head Shoppe for a haircut again. I love the Head shoppe. It seems that any location I have been to has had excellent stylists and a really nice atmosphere.I go most often to the location at Dutch Village Road. Bonnie is a master and she has helped me grow my crappy hair out before and when she did, she charged me for a "bang trim"After a bad bowl cut...I went back to Bonnie to grow it out. She's still as good as ever-a true master.Now she charges me the full price, even if it's just a trim and I have short hair which is too bad. I'll keep seeing her because she is good... Read Less
