I received a pedicure from this location on January 13th and the nail technician accidentally cut the skin on my left, big toe. The nail technician did not clean the cut properly and continued with the pedicure. Immediately after my pedicure, my toe became very painful and swollen. Despite my best efforts to clean the wound on my own, I developed a painful bacterial toe infection at the place where my toe was cut. The infection lasted approximately 10 days and I was able to treat it with an antibacterial ointment.
In regards to the salon itself, the establishment is very dirty; there is dust, nail residue and hair on all of the surfaces. Also, I have not witnessed any of the employees disinfecting their nail tools in between using them on customers. Before my nail appointment, the nail technician put some Clorox bleach into the foot soak bath and then rinsed it out again. I also did not witness the towels being changed.
I contacted the manager of Unique Nails, Jenny Viu (Thu Thi Bich Bu), over the phone on January 19th to let her know that I had developed a toe infection from the salon. When I told her that my toe was infected she told me to soak it in salt water. I let her know that I wasn't looking for medical advice and only wanted a refund. She then told me that I could visit the salon again for a refund. I found time to go back to the salon on Sunday, January 21 but the salon was closed.
On January 27th I spoke to Jenny Viu over the phone again and she told me to visit the salon on January 29th for the refund. I let her know that I could not make it in at that time, so we settled on January 27th at 5:30 pm.
When I went in, Jenny asked to see my toe. The infection had mostly healed at this point and Jenny said that I was not going to receive a refund because the toe infection was not the fault of the establishment. She also said to me that she had already paid her technicians so there was no way to refund me. Then, she said that she never promised me a refund (despite the two previous verbal guarantees for a refund) and that my toe infection was caused by an ingrown nail.
I left the nail salon without a refund and was told that the infection was not their fault, even though the infection developed where I was cut by the nail technician.
It is clear that the infection began from the tools that were used on me, which were not sanitized or disinfected. Despite my efforts to resolve this issue with the individuals involved, directly, nothing has been resolved. I believe that a health inspection is warranted for this establishment to prevent future health issues.
BE WARNED - the manager Jenny Viu is very unprofessional and unpleasant. She was arguing with me while doing another customer's nails - yikes! I understand how customer service works. I have worked in customer service for a very long time. Even though the nail technician cut my toe during my pedicure, I still tipped her a generous amount and went on my way - I gave her the benefit of the doubt! I was only looking for a refund because of the trouble the toe infection caused me, and to let the manager know that obviously the tools are not being cleaned properly. Jenny promised me a refund (twice!) over the phone and when I went in to receive it, I was denied. How does that make sense? Read Less
