This was my second visit to this salon. The first was many years ago, when I got nail extensions and French-style gel nails. I remember they did a great job, and the nails lasted a long time, only it was a little pricier than what I was used to.I came here again a couple weeks ago to get shellac. They did a great job on my nails and I've gotten so many compliments! I don't like having complex nail designs, and I opted for plain white. With cuticle cleaning and the full manicure, it came out to be $55. They were very careful, and had an efficient system for painting the nails and drying them under UV ray. The service was great, and I didn't have to make a reservation. Again, my nails look fantastic, however this is a higher price point than what I'm used to. Usually I get my nails done in Hamilton for $30. I'm glad I found this place, for when I need to get my nails done in the future in Vancouver, however it's quite pricey and will probably be for special occasions. Read Less

Annie did my nails, and I'm so happy with them!! Such friendly service. They are a little more expensive than some salons, but the quality is well worth it. Their Polish application is far superior to other places I've been, my gel mani can last easily 3-4 weeks with no chipping/lifting. I have been going to minoko nail studio for almost a year now and i have to say they never disappoint me!! My nail technician vicky always give me the most creative designs and what I love the most about them is that if your nails break or if a gem falls off within the 2 weeks they will fix it for you right away with no charge! In Vancouver for a few days..needed my nails done. Googled and found Minoko Nail Studio and gave it a try. Had a pedicure and a fill with shellac. Pedicure was good...kinda short but good...wanted more foot massage..lol.. not complaining though...I like it. .but my nails..OUTSTANDING! !! Joy took the time and picked at my nails to the most insignificant detail...but not insignificant to me. I am a picky client when it comes to my nails.... I will pay the price, no questions asked but I know what I want... thin but not to thin, curved in the right place, nail polish perfect...shape is the most important and Joy gave me that and more. I am impressed..I am looking at my nails trying to find something wrong with them and I can't. .. She took the time and she actually listened to what I wanted and she delivered. I went in for a fill and one of the younger girls helped me. I did a 2-coat, single colour fill and it took a solid 2.5, almost 3 hours which is crazy to me that it took so long. Usually a fancy design with bling and multiple colours would take that time! In addition, the colour is not even between my fingers and my thumbs (color is more solid on thumbs, streakier on my other nails). My cuticles were also red and sore with tears from the way the lady filed it. Don't get me wrong, everyone here is super nice, but I would try to only schedule with the owners going forward. Also, they seem to use the same nail files for every client. The file used on me seems very dull. I would bring my own file or go to a salon where they open a new one for each client if possible. The girls here did a great job! Very friendly, and professional. They took their time even though there were three of us, and we came near closing time; they didn't make us feel rushed at all. Quality work, they were very accommodating. The price for their shellac manicure is a bit higher than others, but at least you know they'll do an excellent job. Downtown Loacation: Bad service, bad nail job. My french mani was uneven and started flaking the next day, while I was told it would last up to a week. They were 15 mins late and I was just left to wait, no water/tea anything. Work area was dirty, I was not impressed. CUSTOMER BEWARE!!!!! I went to the Granville location to get a full set of UV gel nails before my wedding and it was the worse experience ever!!! The girl that helped me told me it was $59 and that is the price of a "Master" Artist (Junior Artist price would be $49). Having said that, it was not work of a "Master" artist at all. While buffing out the gel that was placed on top of my nails with a sand paper spinning tool I had 5 fingers and 1 thumb that was all raw from the sa...nding. it was so painful and when I asked them about it, she did apologize. At the time I thought, damage was already done. She said that after my pedicure was done, I could wash my hands and she can put some cuticle oil on it. I was more hoping for disinfectant since my skin was all sanded down and cut. When it came time to pay, I was handing them my credit card and my thumb started bleeding non-stop. I asked for a tissue and they didn't even want to knowledge what had happened which was very disappointing. This was a more expensive place and I though customer service would be way better. I had to be like "I don't think my fingers should be bleeding after a nail session". The girl helping me had to get her supervisor and in Mandarin, the supervisor told the girl, you did it too deep. After the whole ordeal, they still wanted to change me full price but I told them I don't feel like I should pay for this. so in the end they said they would just charge for the pedicure. Which was fine, but I will not be back. My fingers hurt for a week after, it hurt every time I washed my hands and it hurt on my wedding day. Honestly, I don't think I will be back because of the price because it was SUPER expensive when I went. So the scenario went like this:My friend and I decided to get our nails done last minute before heading to the club. I think we called like at 11 and wanted an appointment around 6. They were able to accommodate us so we thought "why not?". On the phone though, I got asked about what we wanted to do and I gave the details as asked. When the description was done, the receptionist said that they wouldn't be able to do any designs since that would mean staying too late. That was fine with us since we didn't really want anything so after asking the price, we waited for our appointment.We showed up about 10 minutes early for our appointment and just waited. My friend ended up starting before me and I had to wait an extra 20 minutes (6:20) because my technician was late. It happens so I didn't think much about it but she didn't give any reason for being late or even apologize for being late. After that, once she started on my nails, she asked me about where my nails were done and I told her not there. Then she said that their store charges extra to take off the gel polish if it's not from their store. I thought that was ridiculous but just went along with it. During the whole appointment, the two technicians who were working on our nails chatted every so often. I normally would be fine with that but the thing is they were talking to each other in their native language so I don't know if they were talking about us or something.Overall it wasn't very pleasant. I got charged for adding 2 little rhinestones on my nails and so did my friend. We didn't even do anything complex in design. They even charged for doing 1 silver nail on each hand. Super expensive. Worse pedicure ever!!! I drove by and wanted to try a new place out. The name of the store made the shop sound like it was Japanese owned, but everyone there spoke mandarin. I walked in with a Tiffany green/blue color in mind, but to my disappointment they only had a palette full of pinks, reds, and dull dark colors. The color palette looked like it had been sitting in an oven as the colors were chipped, bubbley and unevenly painted on. They did not clean underneath my toe nails, no cuticle softener, no foam toe separator for the polish stage, no foot dryer (used industrial fan to dry my toes) and to top it all off, they didn't even have the color I ended up picking! The lady told me they ran out of that particular pink color and brought me a red instead. Also, they charge more than the average rate of pedicures. Pure nail bar charges 35$. While they charge 36$ without tax. So so disappointed. I don't even understand how this place has good ratings. I up keep my nails every month, but this place really annoyed me. Never coming back. I booked my first nail appointment with Minoko over the phone and explained that I needed to remove my soft gel nails (not originally done there ) and to get a regular manicure instead. I was booked in for Saturday morning at 11am-first thing! Which is nice so I don't need to worry about appointments running late on me. My nail tech who I later found out was going to be Vicky, was running late but there was another staff member around to get the removal process started. I was given some colour wheels to choose from and when Vicky arrived I showed her which one I had picked. I should probably mention now that when I booked I spoke english, but when Vicky arrived she spoke mandarin with me and being that I understand a little mandarin, tried to converse with her as best I could. I told her that I wanted regular manicure, the most basic option, one colour, no designs. She agreed and said that the colour I picked, was going to be $5 more because it was better quality than the other wheels. I was fine with that and said ok. I think this is where the confusion started as she started giving me gel nails and I didn't really realize as it was my 2nd time ever getting my nails done. However halfway through the owner noticed and asked me if I was wanting gel, or regular, as I had originally asked. I told her I had wanted regular but as it had already changed into gel I guess I had to keep going. This was when their great customer service shone -they said they were not going to charge me for the gel nails because it was their mistake! I totally wasn't expecting that at all, I had been preparing to pay for the gel nails set or at least half of it. I thought this was quite honest of them and I didn't even have to say anything at all. Just for this alone I would give Minoko Nails 4 stars. All in all, I would recommend Minoko Nails because they took initiative to fix the mistake and did a good job on my nails! Also they do try to accommodate walk-ins as best they can between appointments as well. There was a girl getting french tips done who had walked-in, and the nails techs were trying to figure out how to finish her tips as another customer (with an appointment) had arrived. One of the friendliest nail salon in the area.  My regular salon was closed today, so I decided to try Minoko.  I called 15mins before and they told me they can accommodate me.  Sunny was the lady who helped me with my pedicure.  She was friendly, but didn't chit chat that much, which I like.  I like to catch up on emails while I'm getting my toes done.The price is higher than typical hole in the wall nail salons, but Minoko was a lot cleaner and actually put work into their décor.  Parking is in the back and is limited. This is the best nail salon I've ever been to. I used to come here to see Annie often when I lived in Burnaby. She always did a fantastic job, and I liked that she helped me pick something unique because what I usually had in mind was somewhat boring. Also she would tell me if something wouldn't look good, which I appreciated.  Since I moved back to the island, I tried a few other nail salons since I don't go to the mainland often and they were all terrible compared to minoko so I have given up! I have been to Miniko Nail Studio a few times for Gel nails and have mixed reviews. I think this is probably due to the different technicians but I haven't had any of the technicians introduce themselves, or see them wearing name tags to identify who I would request if I return. I get my gel nails done every 3 weeks and have found that prices here are more expensive than any other nail salon in Burnaby. I don't mind paying extra if I have a specific design or nail art idea in mind but not for a basic colour refill. Best Experience:I wanted some technical nail art designs done for a music festival I was attending and my nails turned out absolutely perfect! It took about 3 hours for them to complete my nails, but in the end they looked gorgeous and I didn't mind paying over $100 for the quality of the work. Worst Experience: Wanted a french manicure for a wedding and last minute before the colour was to be applied was told that is wasn't possible. The technician did not speak english very well and didn't give me a clear reason as to why she couldn't complete a french tip.. I was a little annoyed and didn't understand but decided to go for a solid colour instead. It turned out alright but she cut my nails much shorter than I requested and I ended up walking away very unsatisfied and felt as though I couldn't communicate my disappointment to her. Read Less

I think that Minoko is pretty overpriced. I have only been here two times and my first visit was quite pleasant but my second visit wasn't very pleasant at all. The girl that was helping me cut a bit of my skin off my finger when she was doing manicure on me. She didn't even apologize. I felt that she wasn't very professional when she was helping me. She held the cutting tools in a very odd way... I'm assuming it's because of her super long fake nails. I only found out that I had a cut on my finger when she put liquids on my fingers and it stung. For price alone, I will not be returning to minoko... Hate to say it but they are overpriced and every little thing extra they charge for. For example, the plastic flip flops for pedicures, some nail polish's cost more than others, each additional jewel, etc... I didn't like that! I am on a budget and my toes and nails came out to just under $100! And for my toes I just got regular polish.... My fingernails I got shellac nails. My girlfriend and I arrived at the salon at 3 for our appointment. We had booked ahead so we could sit together. They refused to sit us together, one getting a pedicure and the other a manicure separately. This bothered us right away... And they said it was because they only had 2 pedicure chairs. But the pedi chair next to me remained open  while I had my pedi, until I had my manicure done.....I also didn't find the salon very clean... There were tons of leftover cups everywhere and my chair was dirty when I went to sit down..Also, the manicure you pay $50 or more for, WARNING: you don't get a massage with it... I have never has this before! Typically I have had massages with manicures.. Even in the cheapest salons!The kicker: this all took OVER 4 hours! It was the slowest mani/pedi I have ever received and the most expensive! We had to tell them to hurry by the end because we both had evening plans. My girlfriend's pedi wasn't hardened when we left so she had to be extremely careful. And pay for the cheap flip flops....Overall experience: I will not be back. Sorry minoko! Read Less

I've been going to Minoko Nail Studio for more than 2 years~ I get Vivian or Annie to do my gel Nail. Although it cost a little more than other nail salons, you get the best quality, skills of technicians,  and the cleanliness of the products and store here. Their gel nail stays shiny until my next visit too! They are also super friendly~ I've tried many other Nail salons in the past since I had gel nails for 9 - 10 years but I'm settled at this place. No other place is knowledgeable and up to date with Japanese Nail art like this store.  Also they guarantee 2week from breakage or splitting~ As a tip it's best to make appointments a few days earlier since they are really busy! This review is long overdue. I usually go to Minoko for gel nails, but after awhile I decided to give my nails a rest. I finally decided to get my nails done again; however, I was curious about other nail salons so I decided to go somewhere else this time....big mistake!While Minoko is a bit pricey compared to the other salons I've been to, I find this place to be worth it. The salon is clean, nicely decorated, and doesn't smell of chemicals at all! Upon arrival, I'm offered a drink and they request I wash my hands first. I love this since, to me, it shows that cleanliness is important to them. The girls that work here are so gentle, meticulous, and sweet. It usually takes about three hours for me to get a fill plus colour and/or design change but I don't mind since it's super comfortable and relaxing there, plus my nails are always perfect when I leave. What's even more awesome is that my gel nails never lift or chip. Being a regular at Minoko has really raised my standards and other salons don't even compare in my opinion. I cannot wait to go back. So far the worst manicure I've ever had. I don't think you can attach pictures here, but I took a few, right after I came out of the place. Update - I did attach a few. My cuticle looked 10 times worse than before the manicure - dry bits were sticking out. They used some rough and cheap file - and though I asked to buff the edge (and she did) - the edges were still so rough that ruined my stockings.The base, the nail polish and the top coat were dry and old. So the whole thing ended up in layers - you can see the traces from the brush from the base (which covered only half of each nail, huh?). The application wasn't good either - on some nails polish was on my cuticle. Summary: I have no idea what I paid $23 for...The whole thing was just so wrong. My friend and I purchased coupons for a gel polish manicure and paraffin wax treatment. The space: very clean, nicely laid out, had three manicure tables and two pedicure chairs. The staff: very friendly, we were offered beverages when we came in and they had the little single serving coffee cups which were awesome. It's nice having a fresh coffee while you're getting a service done. The service: excellent service! My manicurist was great, she was thorough but gentle and gave me good advice on my color choices.The price: with the coupon and the referral system, it's a good price. Regular price is a bit high, but I think it's actually a standard price for gel polish -- I've only had gel nails done with a discount so regular price always seems steep to me. One thing I noticed right away was that the manicurists all had nice nails! In almost all the other shops I've been to, the manicurists always seem to have short, worn looking nails and fingers. I'm sure it's from the type of work they do, and I've never judged anyone for it, but it was nice to see the manicurists with nice, cool looking nails for once.
