So I've just decided to set myself a goal to work my way through and review as many different nail and beauty salons as possible in the next few months. Mix it up a bit.Tommy Tu Nails & Beauty offers a speedy option in the CBD. With a buff, shape and shellac (including colour removal) on the fingers only taking 25 mins and a regular pedicure about 30 mins, the salon is a great option for folks on a lunch break. This speed, the central location in the Adelaide Central Plaza (David Jones) food court/basement, and the incredibly reasonable prices (shellac $25, regular pedi $25) make the salon a solid 3 star experience. For me what's missing is service and quality products. The staff here obviously enjoy each others' company, which is great, but there is a whole lot of talking and joking between the group, and very little engagement with the clients... which to be honest, I don't mind too much, but I do wish I was brought in on the merriment. Also, whilst the shellac topcoat and base coat are 'Gel-ish' brand, the colours are brands I've never seen, they are thinner, and I'm not sure how long they'll last (I'll update the review if it's less than the 3 weeks I would expect from shellac). The regular colours are China Glaze & OPI... I tried China Glaze, which I usually tend to avoid... I remember why... It is awful, even the woman doing my nails said she hated working with it. It didn't help that they didn't use a base coat either, so my pedicure is a little patchy. I guess an artist is only as good as the material they have to work with. For me, Tommy Tu is an option for if I'm in a rush or feeling poor, but I don't see it becoming a preferred option for me in the CBD.
